A family of horse-herding nomads lives in the remote high mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Tabyldy is the head of the household. His wife Karachach does the cooking and looks after their granddaughter, while their widowed daughter-in-law Shaiyr takes their herd to graze. Shaiyr has not had another man in her life since the tragic death of her husband, but when Ermek, the meteorologist from a nearby weather station, strikes a friendship with Tabyldy, it arouses Karachach’s suspicion.
The acclaimed feature debut from Kyrgyz actor-turned-director Mirlan Abdykalykov, HEAVENLY NOMADIC had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, where it won the FEDEORA Award in the East of the West competition, and was later selected as Kyrgyzstan’s Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language Film.
