Danish director, producer, screenwriter and cinematographer Bille August (born November 9, 1948) is one of the most acclaimed Danish filmmakers. We offer a double-feature of PELLE THE CONQUEROR, his 1987 breakout film which won the Palme d'Or in Cannes, an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Picture, and gave Max von Sydow his first Academy Award nomination (for Best Actor). Max von Sydow also stars in August's 1992 film THE BEST INTENTIONS, another Palme d'Or winner, written by Ingmar Bergman.
