The first Cannes Film Festival took place in 1946 following the end of WWII. Since then, the festival has grown in size and scope, with various strands including Un Certain Regard, Directors' Fortnight, International Critics' Week and Cannes Classics presenting films alongside those in the main competition. Widely considered the most prestigious film festival in the world, the red carpet at Cannes is certainly one of the most fashionable places to be seen in the world of film.
