Photographer Roos (Rifka Lodeizen) returns home to visit her family in rural Norway every winter, but this time it’s different: she brings bad news. At first, old pain and resentment keep her from sharing anything with her estranged mother, but with the help of her half-brother and an old flame, the two women are eventually reconciled, and Roos is ready to take her next inescapable step.
Hailed by Filmuforia as a “study of denial, played out against the majestic backdrop of nature,” DISAPPEARANCE, the third feature from Dutch director Boudewijn Koole, premiered in the World Cinema section of the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Cineuropa Prize in Les Arcs.
