In trouble with local authorities, Mexican worker Rafael Améndola (David Silva) illegally crosses the Rio Grande to El Paso with the paid help of “coyote” Frank Mendoza. North of the border, he finds work with Mendoza’s ruthless American associate, Mr. Sterling, but struggles to adapt to his new life amidst exploitation, discrimination, and the constant fear of deportation.

A timeless and poignant tale dramatizing the plight of migrant workers, ESPALDAS MOJADAS was one of the most controversial films from Mexico's Golden Age of Cinema and was the winner of four Ariel Awards including two by writer/director Alejandro Galindo.

This 4K restoration of ESPALDAS MOJADAS from a 35mm negative by the Cineteca Nacional de Mexico is presented as it was originally created in 1955. It is a product of its time and contains cultural and racial depictions that viewers may find offensive.
