Faith
Italian Cinema • Documentary
An isolated monastery in the Italian hills. A kung fu master. A community of Christian monks with a touch of Asian disciplines. A single faith: to fight evil in the name of the Father... For twenty years, former martial arts champions the Warrior of Light have been preparing for a “higher” war amidst night-time prayers and grueling training sessions. This poetic, emotional journey into an unknown world investigates the profound motivations for a radical choice, the reasons for devotion, and what one is willing to lose in order to win in the name of faith?
The final film from Italian director Valentina Pedicini, FAITH had its world premiere in competition at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) before going on to receive the Special Mention prize at Docville and Best Documentary at DocsBarcelona.
“Engrossing... as disciplined and intriguingly opaque as the men and women it studies, attempting to unlock the nature of the group through mesmeric observation of routine and ritual.” –Variety
