Rain

Rain

Joan Crawford stars as Sadie Thompson and Walter Huston as Alfred Davidson, the minister who tries to reform her, in the powerful story of a "fallen woman" who finds herself stranded in the tropics with a group of disparate men during a fierce monsoon. Causing controversy during its original pre-Hays Code era release, RAIN is perhaps the definitive film version of W. Somerset Maugham's widely adapted short story, which was originally titled "Miss Thompson". Recently restored in 4K, this 90th Anniversary edition is produced from the original, uncut 94-minute film elements by The Library of Congress in association with The Mary Pickford Foundation.

“In movies for less than a decade, eventual Best Actress Oscar winner Joan Crawford (Mildred Pierce, 1945) holds her own in Rain while acting opposite an ensemble cast of stage-trained actors, among them Guy Kibbee, Beulah Bondi, and Walter Huston.” –Alt Film Guide
