Akihiro (Hiroto Ogi), a filmmaker based in Paris, returns to Japan to film a documentary on the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. Deeply moved by the interviews, he takes a breather in a nearby park where he meets Michiko (Akane Tatsukawa), a spirited and enigmatic young woman, who takes him on an improvised tour of the modern day city.
The first narrative feature from director Jean-Gabriel Périot, SUMMER LIGHTS had its world premiere in the New Directors section of the San Sebastián Film Festival where it was praised for its “delicate treatment of one of the most crushingly tragic episodes in human history” by The Hollywood Reporter.
