Tanna

In the South Pacific, Wawa, a young girl from one of the last traditional tribes, secretly falls in love with the chief’s grandson, Dain. When war breaks out, Wawa becomes betrothed to another man as part of a negotiated peace offering. Unwilling to accept this fate, the young lovers decide to run away. Pursued by enemy warriors seeking retribution, Wawa and Dain must choose between their hearts and the future of their tribe.

Based on a true "Romeo and Juliet" story and performed by the people of Yakel in Vanuatu, TANNA received an Academy Award Nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
