The Inspector General
The Inspector General • Comedy, Music, Romance, Classics
Too honest for his own good, Georgi (Danny Kaye), a simple-minded snake oil salesman, gets kicked out of a traveling medicine show and stumbles into a small town where he is mistaken as the Inspector General. The corrupt mayor, anxious to protect his monopoly of power, plies him with food and drink while plotting to get rid of him.
Based on a story by Nikolai Gogol, this riotous Technicolor musical comedy, which also stars Walter Slezak, Barbara Bates, and Elsa Lanchester, won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Score in 1950.
“Kaye indulges in all of his specialty talents – from the novelty song sung as fast as possible to absurd physical shenanigans that are delightful to behold.” –San Francisco Chronicle
