One morning, six-year-old Amalka wakes up and hears her family arguing behind closed doors. Something about being unhappy, fairy tales, and doing everything wrong. Upon getting the adults' attention, she is told her grandparents will be taking her on a day trip. After an idyllic afternoon spent at the lake, Amalka eventually comes to learn what the earlier fuss was all about – her mother wants to leave her father and live as an artist in Prague.
