After receiving notification via group text that they are being laid off, the hardworking female employees of the Veronica Garment Factory decide to “borrow” some equipment and create their own line of lingerie. Despite a lack of money and resources, the group is determined to make the new business venture a success. Led by their forewoman Armida (Donatella Finocchiaro), they enlist the help of a local order of nuns with extraordinary embroidering skills, but who are at risk of losing their convent, and devise a mutually beneficial plan to join forces and share in the profits. Unfortunately, the unlikely team soon comes under attack from the owner of Veronica, a ruthless real estate developer, and the Mother Superior.
Partially inspired by several true stories, Samad Zarmandili's BEATE is a timely and relevant modern-day fairy tale that is “charming in the vein of The Full Monty” (KPCC's FilmWeek).
