Lola

Lola

Just when Lola (Mya Bollaers), 18 years old and transgender, learns that she can finally have surgery, her mother, who is her only financial support, passes away. Abiding by her mother’s last wishes, Lola and her estranged father Philippe (Benoît Magimel) undertake a journey to the Belgian coast, realizing the outcome may not be the one that either was expecting.

Directed by Laurent Micheli and starring Mya Bollaers in her acclaimed acting debut, LOLA had its world premiere at the Angoulême Film Festival and went on to receive seven nominations at the Magritte Awards, winning Most Promising Actress for Bollaers, who was the first openly transgender person to be nominated for the award.

“A moving portrait of a broken relationship, there is enough heartstring-plucking afoot to make you root for this disparate pair... This is a road trip to remember.” –The Pink Lens
