Lovers: A True Story
In 1950s Madrid, Paco is engaged to Trini, an innocent young woman who has amassed considerable savings for her marriage. While in search of a job, Paco rents a room from Luisa (Victoria Abril), a worldly and seductive widow who eventually convinces him to kill Trini and steal her money. But can Paco break free from her control?
Based on a true story of forbidden passion and betrayal, Vicente Aranda's LOVERS: A TRUE STORY had its world premiere at the Berlinale where Victoria Abril was presented the Best Actress prize. The film would go on to be nominated for seven Goya Awards and won Best Film and Best Director honors.
