Damascus, Spring 2011. During the early stages of the Arab Spring, 25-year-old Nahla is torn between her desire for freedom and the hope of leaving the country thanks to her arranged marriage with Samir, a Syrian expatriate in the United States. When he chooses her younger, more docile sister Myriam, Nahla finds refuge with her neighbor, the mysterious Ms. Jiji, who runs the brothel upstairs.
The debut feature of Women in Motion's Young Talent Award recipient Gaya Jiji, MY FAVORITE FABRIC made its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. "Jiji explores Middle Eastern notions of femininity and virility with frank and daring strokes, leavened by fantasy." - Lisa Nesselson, Screen Daily
