Oasis of Now
In a stairwell of an old apartment complex in Kuala Lumpur, a woman and her daughter take refuge. They meet, play games and attempt to interact in this stolen time. The mother thinks she knows what is best for the daughter, while the daughter longs for a promise from the mother. Later, they return separately to their homes in the same apartment complex. But nothing is quite what it seems.
Winner of the Silver Hanoman Award at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, this debut feature from award-winning writer/director Chee Sum Chia presents a “measured and gently moving character study of a Vietnamese woman who is living an undocumented life in Malaysia” (Screen Daily).
