A Tramway in Jerusalem
A TRAMWAY IN JERUSALEM
•
Comedy, Drama
The Jerusalem Light Rail's Red Line connects the city from east to west, from the Palestinian neighborhoods of Shuafat and Beit Hanina to Mount Herzl – a journey that reflects the culturally complex makeup of the city. Through a series of encounters along the line, director Amos Gitai reveals the diverse human mosaic inside the spiritual center of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. While traveling across this vibrant city, the small conflicts and reconciliations of everyday life provide a kernel of hope in a society so often divided by political boundaries.
Hailed as “graceful” and “charming” by The Jewish Week, this humorous and touching film from Israeli director Amos Gitai was an official selection at the Venice Biennale.
