In wartorn France, Eliane (Lisa Gastoni), a married pharmacist who has been trapped in a passionless marriage for years, secretly begins sleeping with her shop clerk, Armand (Franco Nero). But as their affair escalates, Armand's behavior becomes increasingly dark and dominant, involving sadistic demands of public humiliation and for Eliane to corrupt her teenage daughter.
