Justino, a 45-year-old Desana native, works in the industrial center of Manaus as a security guard at the cargo port. Since the death of his wife, his primary companion is his youngest daughter, Vanessa, who has just been accepted to study medicine in Brasilia. Feeling trapped in the city and missing his native village, Justino suddenly begins to feel ill with a mysterious, debilitating fever.
