Drama
Long, a Vietnamese cook and Warsaw resident, has built up a loyal following for his expertly-made pho, until the restaurant where he works is sold to a new owner who wants to revamp the menu. This sudden change exacerbates Long’s struggles to fit in with the European culture his ten-year-old daughter has freely embraced as her own.
Warsaw-based, Japanese-born filmmaker Mariko Bobrink shines a light on Poland’s Vietnamese population with her feature directorial debut, THE TASTE OF PHO, a poignant drama about love, misunderstanding, and food, which had its world premiere at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
“A lighthearted feel-good movie about the immigrant experience and the process of letting go... as warm, complex, and comforting as its titular dish.” –The Gate
