In 1958 Federico Fellini was at a crossroads. He had already won two Academy Awards for “La Strada” and “Nights of Cabiria,” but no one wanted to make his latest project, a film called “La Dolce Vita.” Giuseppe Amato, who had previously produced masterpieces such as “Umberto D.” and “The Flowers of St. Francis,” was the only producer who could comprehend Fellini’s vision. His thirty years of experience told him that the undertaking would not be without risks, and he was correct. The endeavor would become the most challenging undertaking of his life and career.

Based on original and never published before letters, contracts and production paperwork, THE TRUTH ABOUT LA DOLCE VITA portrays the real-life drama behind the making of one of the most celebrated masterpieces in the history of cinema. Directed by Giuseppe Pedersoli, the grandson of “La Dolce Vita” producer Giuseppe Amato, this insightful documentary had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival coinciding with the 100th anniversary of Fellini’s birth.
