After welcoming her first child, Suk-jing (Hedwig Tam) finds motherhood more overwhelming than she imagined. Living with her husband Wai and his parents, she struggles with sleepless nights, postpartum changes, and tensions with her mother-in-law. With much of the childcare falling on her, Suk-jing fights to hold on to the bakery career she loves while becoming increasingly exhausted and isolated.
Winner of the NETPAC Award at the Golden Horse Film Festival, MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD is the acclaimed sophomore feature from Oliver Chan. Featuring a “nuanced” Best Actress-winning performance by Hedwig Tam, this deeply personal drama presents a “realistic tale of maternity in a patriarchal Chinese society” (South China Morning Post).
