Jesús Lopez (Lucas Schell), a young racing driver, dies in an accident, leaving his village in mourning. His cousin Abel (Joaquin Spahn), a drifting teenager, gradually feels tempted to take his place. He moves in with Jesus’ parents, wears his clothes, and becomes close with his friends and ex-girlfriend. At first, Abel takes a liking to the role, but the resemblance starts becoming unsettling. When a car race in homage to Jesús is organized in the village, Abel becomes possessed by his cousin's spirit and drives his car.
Winner of Best Director at the Mar del Plata Film Festival, JESÚS LOPEZ, the fourth feature from writer/director Maximiliano Schonfeld is both “warm-hearted and thought-provoking” (Screen Daily).
“A harrowing but poignant portrayal of grief, which ventures deep into the human condition and emerges layered with deep, sorrowful meaning and provocative content, which all leads to the process of decoding this mystifying but beautiful psychological drama.” –International Cinephile Society
