Legendary Hong Kong filmmaker Ann Hui turns her camera toward one of her lifelong passions: poetry. Through intimate conversations with some of Hong Kong’s most notable poets, along with archival encounters with those who have passed, Hui explores their lives, work, and changing relationship with the city, focusing particularly on the contrasting paths of poets Huang Canran and Liu Wai-tong.
Hailed by the South China Morning Post as “one of the cultural events of the year,” ELEGIES was selected as the opening film of the Hong Kong International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Documentary at the Golden Horse Awards.
“A film that focuses on a literary legacy and Hong Kong’s past... made with a great deal of love.” –Screen Daily
